The governments of Mozambique and South Africa recently began the negotiation process for the implementation of a simplified trade regime, with the aim of modernising import and export mechanisms at the borders linking the two countries.

According to information released on Tuesday (28) by Semanário Económico, at the meeting organised by the Mozambique-South Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIMOSA), representatives of the two nations presented their strategic vision for the 2024-25 period, and signed an institutional partnership through which they aim to work together to promote, connect and monitor investments.

Present at the event, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Silvino Moreno, emphasised that trade relations between the two nations are important and have positive results for the development of the business environment.

‘Now is the time for the national private sector, especially micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), to start increasing the level of internationalisation of their competitive and productive capacity in South Africa through export diversification and investment mobility,’ he urged.

The minister also urged CCIMOSA to define and promote a portfolio of projects in the areas of networked industrialisation, considering the existence of industrial parks in Mozambique, with a view to promoting the transformation and addition of value to agricultural and mineral raw materials.

Moreno emphasised the need to implement critical and logistical systems for commercial intermediation, invest in tourism, the cultural industry, renewable energy and logistics and infrastructures.

We believe and hope that through the Mozambique-South Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, our country will be one of the best partners for the South Africans, and that the balance of trade and capital will be balanced and contribute to greater proximity and the establishment of partnerships,’ he concluded.
